Important Dates and A Peek At Our Week

Kindergarten Playground Fundraiser:
The Kindergarten classes are holding a golf fundraiser to raise funds for a new Kindergarten playground.  The Kindergarten team asked us to pass along the following message, which I am copying and pasting from their email:

"Our Kindergarten team and the PTA  is raising monies for a special needs/ kindergarten playground.  We are organizing a golf outing on March 29th!! Flyers went out last week with information but here are some more ways you can help!  

1.  Play Golf- Sign up to play with friends or for the Kids Camp(only 16 spots for kids camp)

2.  Help us by finding a sponsor for a hole or donating to our  raffle---- Does your company donate to causes?  or do you know someone who would like their business name advertised.  Please let us know!

3.  Direct Donation-  You can just give a personal donation directly from you

Random Acts of Kindness Week (RAK)

Random Acts of Kindness week is coming up from February 18th - 22nd. In honor of this week, students are being given a Counselor's 28 Day Challenge with many different ways to show kindness to others. These will be due on March 8th to the guidance counselors! Please feel free to ask your child's teacher about the challenge! We will also be hosting a spirit week here at Pinebrook to recognize and honor this wonderful week of kindness. The schedule will be as follows:
Monday 2/18/19 - MLK Day (No School)
Tuesday 2/19/19 - Kindness rocks! (Dress like a rock or RAK star)
Wednesday 2/20/19 - Dreaming about kindness (Wear your PJs... no slippers please!)
Thursday 2/21/19 - Sunshine of someone's day (Wear yellow and sunglasses to brighten someone's day)
Friday 2/22/19 - At PNB, kindness starts with ME (Wear PNB spirit wear)
We look forward to celebrating kindness! However, please remember it is important to be kind for 365 days a year!

Dr. Seuss Week

In celebration of Dr. Seuss’s Birthday, the week of March 4 – 8, 2019 will be filled with many” Seuss -related” activities. The activities include: the reading of “Seuss-isms”, estimation jars, “You’ve been Seuss-ed” activity, and much more. Most of the activities will be completed at school, however the following activities will originate at home.
Monday: In honor of the characters from “Who-ville”, we will have Crazy Hair Day! Get that hair gel and those bows ready. How crazy can you make your hair?
Tuesday: We love the book Fox in Socks. Students are encouraged to wear silly, wacky, mismatched socks to school today.
Wednesday: In honor of the wonderful Cat in the Hat, it is Crazy Hat Day!
Thursday: A Dr. Seuss favorite Oh the Places You Will Go! prompts all to wear their favorite College Shirt/Vacation Souvenir Shirt.
Friday: The Sleep Book is a childhood favorite so today is Pajama Day. Wear your favorite school appropriate pajamas to school. Each student will watch a Dr. Seuss Movie in their classroom.


Game Night

Thursday, February 21st from 6:30 - 8:00pm
Students will come play a variety of games with their friends and family.


Fine Arts Night

Wednesday, March 6th from 5:30 - 7:30pm. More info to come soon!

Important Dates and A Peek At Our Week

Happy Friday!!

Valentine's Day Party!
Our class party will be Thursday, February 14th, 11:45am to 1:15pm. All parents are welcome to attend and help out! We will be passing out Valentine's Day cards at the party as one of the activities. If your child would like to write out Valentine's they need to for the whole entire class! A class list has been sent home with everyone's names! Please do not send in Valentine's that have candy attached to it.  We will be making Valentine's Day bags in class.

We will also be ordering pizza during lunch.  This pizza lunch will only be for students, but please feel free to join us for the party afterwards.

Valentine's Day Message from LCPS

"In keeping with current practices designed to protect the health and safety of all children, elementary students in Loudoun County Public Schools are not permitted to distribute candy or other food items to classmates. As Valentine’s Day approaches, it is important for parents to understand that candy brought to school by students, including candy attached to Valentine’s Day cards, will be returned to the parent. Children are permitted to share Valentine's Day cards with each other, but they cannot give out candy "


CogAt Testing
Our class has completed the Verbal, Nonverbal, and Quantitative Cogat subtests.  We are officially complete.  Scores will be sent home with 3rd quarter report cards.

School Closings:  
Winter is here!  Check the Loudoun County Public Schools web site or the local television and radio stations for school closings or delays.  Check with the main office if you have any questions before the winter weather is upon us!

Our class has completed 2 of the 3 Cogat subtests.  We will have Thursday off from testing and then continue again on Friday.

Cogat Testing Tomorrow!

Our classroom will be starting our Cogat testing tomorrow.  We,will be testing Tuesday from 8:00-9:30, Wednesday from 9:30-11:00, and then on Friday from 11:45-1:15.  Please make sure your children get a good nights sleep and have breakfast in the morning.
