PINEBROOK SHOE DRIVE

PLEASE DONATE YOUR GENTLY WORN, USED AND NEW SHOES TO A CURE FOR JACK, BENEFITTING SLC6A1 #ACureforJack
My name is Janet Hart and I have been part of the Pinebrook family for the past two years. Our son, Jack, is a busy 6 year old boy living with a rare neurological disease, SLC6A1. He suffers from seizures, cognitive delays, apraxia of speech, and developmental delays. We are actively working toward a cure and need your help to raise the necessary funds to move on to a clinical trial for gene replacement therapy. Every shoe collected turns into dollars for #ACureforJack and will help Jack and the other children diagnosed with SLC6A1, the disease so rare, it doesn’t even have a name. Please click the link below to read more about Jack's story.
Accepting ALL shoes, including kids, athletic and cleats. No tears, rips, or holes please.
The goal is to collect 100 bags of shoes, with 25 pairs in each bag! Please help us to achieve this.
Collected shoes are used to support micro-enterprise vendors. Micro-enterprises are small businesses in developing nations. They are typically operated by one person or family and friends, depending on size.

    Timed Drills
Now that we are halfway through 2nd grade, our timed drills will change. Instead of giving 5 minutes to complete 50 problems, students will now have 4 minutes. It will stay this way for the remainder of the year. You may see some regression in their scores since we are taking a minute away, however we hope to see them improve quickly!

    CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test)
Allen and Peet's Scheduled CogAT test dates:
    Monday, February 10th 8:00-9:30
    Tuesday, February 11th 8:00-9:30
    Wednesday, February 12th 8:00-9:30

Please make sure students come to school on time so they do not miss the start of the test.  Students who are absent or show up late will need to do a makeup test with another class.

During the month of February, second grade students in Loudoun County Public Schools will take the online Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), Form 7, Level 8. The CogAT measures general and specific cognitive skills that allow a student to learn new tasks or solve problems in the absence of direct instruction.

Students’ verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal reasoning abilities are measured by three test batteries, each of which is comprised of three subtests. Students typically complete three subtests per day, for three consecutive school days, to complete all nine subtests. These tests are untimed; however, each day’s testing period usually does not exceed 90 minutes. Students work through each subtest at his or her own pace, and the entire test is read aloud to students by means of pre-recorded audio.

Students cannot prepare or study for the CogAT. Instead, they will have the opportunity to become familiar with test items through teacher-directed practice activities. Additionally, practice questions, administered before the first subtest, will familiarize students with the online testing environment.

Score reports will be sent home to parents/guardians together with the 3rd Quarter report card.

    Disinfecting Wipes
Our class disinfects desks and around the classroom every Friday.  This has really helped with preventing the spread of germs. We are on our last container of disinfecting wipes.  If anybody would be willing to donate a container or two of disinfecting wipes that would be greatly appreciated!

    Dreambox
Students need to complete 60 minutes of Dreambox to earn Fun Friday.  If you are having difficulty accessing Dreambox through LCPSGO, you can click the link below.  The login and password is your child’s student number and the Class Code is 44359.
