Story Elements

This week the focus of read aloud is on story elements.  In class we will be reading short stories and discussing/writing about the characters, setting, problem, and solution.

The Story Elements Quiz will be this Friday.

Beginning, Middle, End

This week the focus of read aloud is on beginning, middle, and end.  In class we will be reading short stories and discussing/writing the beginning, middle, and end of the story.

For the quiz, students will need to listen to a story and then write what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. The Beginning, Middle, End Quiz will be this Friday.

Making Connections

This week the focus of read aloud is on making connections. In class we talked about the four types of connections:
1. Self to Text - a connection between the book and your life experiences
2. Text to Text - a connection between the book and another book/text you have read
3. Text to World - a connection between the book and events in the real world
4. Text to Media - a connection between the book and something you've seen on TV or computer
Students need to make a connection with a story and explain how it reminds them of one of the connections.  The connections quiz will be this Friday.
