We have lots of fun holiday activities this week!  Today there is a band concert by the Mercer students.  Tomorrow is our gingerbread house decorating.  Please remember to send in your icing and one candy!  If you are a parent who is coming to help, please arrive around 9:15.

We have our word study quiz this Friday, but no other homework this week :)

Homework

Math homework is practicing addition and subtraction with regrouping.  We have a math test next Wed, 12/13, on both of these concepts. 
Thanks for all the icing and graham crackers!  We have enough graham crackers so you don't have to send anymore.  Don't forget to send your child's icing and at least one candy before next Wed.

Tomorrow we are visiting the school's holiday shop for our preview day.  If your child wants to purchase something, they will bring home a list with prices tomorrow.  Next week, you can send money with them to purchase.

Good morning!  Tomorrow (Wed) is our Map Skills Test, so please use the study guide that was sent out last week.  Our last word study quiz for this year is next Friday, 12/15. 
Math homework will be a worksheet practicing estimating sums and differences.

We have a math worksheet for homework, which is more subtraction practice for Friday's quiz.  Our word study quiz is also on Friday.  You should have received the green sheet of paper yesterday telling you about our gingerbread house activity on Dec 14.  Thanks to all of you who volunteered to help that day!  I also will need some assistance putting houses together before the 14th, so if you are free on Dec 11 or 12, please let me know.  Thanks so much!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!  We have several quiz dates this week, as well as math homework each night.  Please continue to practice subtraction with your child at home.  It has been a tricky concept for some of them, so extra practice is always helpful!  We have a subtraction quiz on Friday, Dec 1.  We also have a word study quiz Friday.  Our continents quiz is tomorrow (Wed), and they should be able to label the 7 continents and 5 oceans.  They brought home a worksheet last night that is a helpful study guide for that.

Tonight's homework is a math worksheet.  We started subtraction with regrouping today, and we still need lots of practice.  They have a worksheet from class that they may finish at home, as well as the homework. 
Tomorrow is our last day before Thanksgiving break, and we will be sending some of the smaller Native American projects home.  If your child's is too large and you don't want them to carry on the bus, please make arrangements to pick them up next week after the break.  Thanks!

This year report cards will not come home with your child in their folder. They will be accessible through Parent Vue on our online grade book - Phoenix. Parents should have their own log in and password given to them at the beginning of the year through the front office More information will come home about this next week!

Upcoming Dates

Hope you all enjoyed your very long weekend!  The students enjoyed a guest speaker from the Jamestown settlement today, who was very interesting and allowed the students to participate and hold some artifacts from the Powhatan tribe.  Ask them if they remember some of the Powhatan words he taught us!

We have a quarter one math assessment test tomorrow on all the subjects we've covered in math so far this year.  We did quite a bit of review today, and they can finish the worksheets they brought home, but there is no homework.

On Friday, we have a word study quiz, and we also have a special veterans day celebration assembly.

Our Lakota quiz is Monday, 11/13, and the final test on all the tribes is on Thursday, 11/16.

Don't forget our Native American performance is on Tuesday, Nov 14 at 8:30 am. The kids have practiced and worked very hard on their songs and lines, so please join us if you can!

A Peek at Our Week

Today we had a firefighter visit our classroom and he gave us some excellent reminders about fire safety.  He even gave you as parents some homework to complete this weekend!  Thank you Firefighter Jason (Aaron's dad) for coming in today!

The assignment includes a written booklet to be completed at home, a presentation to be done in class, and a 3-D project to completed at home. The information sent home includes ideas for the 3-D project and a list of tribes they can choose to research. Students MAY NOT choose to research one of the tribes we will be learning about in class: Powhatan, Lakota, or Pueblo.

A letter was also sent home today about the Native American unit for Social Studies that we started today, and it included all quiz and test dates, as well as the study guides for each of the tribes.

Information on our first At Home Project is coming home today. It is due on Friday, November 10th.

The assignment includes a written booklet to be completed at home, a presentation to be done in class, and a 3-D project to completed at home. The information sent home today includes ideas for the 3-D project and a list of tribes they can choose to research. Students MAY NOT choose to research one of the tribes we will be learning about in class: Powhatan, Lakota, or Pueblo.

I will be going over in detail this project with the students and answering any questions they may have. Please read over the assignment again with your child and feel free to email me with any questions!

Monday: Mismatch Day- Wear mismatch clothes to represent the way bullying can make students feel…mismatched.

Tuesday: Superhero Day-Let all students know you are a superhero in the effort to stop bulling! You are an upstander and practice Stop, Walk, Talk!

Wednesday: Inside out-Wear your clothes inside out to that shows bullying can cause hurt feelings on the inside more than anyone knows on the outside.

Thursday: Wear two different shoes- Take a walk in someone else’s shoes, to show compassion and empathy for someone’s situation.
