Triple Play

The Triple Play!
Triple Play is March 23rd at 6:00 p.m.  Triple, Triple, Triple!  The Triple Play is almost here!  Come and bring the family to Champe HS on Thursday, March 23rd for this annual Pinebrook tradition.  Have dinner (Pizza or Chick Fil A Sandwiches), bowl a teacher, enter a raffle for either a Kindle Fire or Amazon Dot, support the Teachers Making Track Relay for Life Team, and best of all – root on your favorite team – THE THIESSEN TIGERS or THE JOLLY RODGERS!  All of the Pinebrook Staff members will be competing in fun (and oftentimes silly) games for the ultimate bragging rights at Pinebrook.  Doors open at 5:45 pm for dinner and teacher bowling.  First Grade students will lead us in the National Anthem at 6:40 pm to kick off the games.  The evening concludes by 8 pm.  Watch for the event flyer coming home in your students’ backpack.
To volunteer to help during the event (and we really need  a lot of help) go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e48a8ad23a57-triple.  A big shout out to our event sponsors – Bach to Rock, Loudoun Pediatric Associates, East Gate Orthodontics, The Reynolds Team and Ashburn Pediatrics – We couldn’t hold these events without you!

Oobleck Experiment

Oobleck Experiment:  In this experiment, students made a substance similar to quicksand, but much more fun!  Oobleck is actually a non-newtonian fluid. That is, it acts like a liquid when being poured,
but like a solid when a force is acting on it. You can grab it and then it will ooze out of your hands.

Interim Reports

On Wednesday, September 8th interim reports will be emailed home. Not all students will receive interim reports.  If your child is having academic and/or behavior concerns, they will receive an interim. This is the half way point in the 3rd quarter. Interim reports are not new to Pinebrook or LCPS, but this quarter they will be sent home via email.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at courtney.allen@lcps.org

Scholastic Book Fair and Fine Arts Night

Scholastic Book Fair and  Fine Arts Night - Tuesday, March 7th

Scholastic Book Fair 3:00pm - 6:30pm

Join us in sharing a love of reading with your child at our Scholastic Book Fair that is being held March 6 – 10, 2017.  The hours of operation are: March 6 - 9, from  8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and Friday, March 10 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  The book fair will close at NOON on Friday!  Be sure to mark your calendar for our Book Fair Family Event on Tuesday, March 7 from 3:00p.m. – 6:30p.m.  This is a wonderful opportunity for your family to shop together.  This Family Night is being held right before Fine Arts Night so you can attend both events on the same evening!

Fine Arts Night 6:00pm- 8:00pm

We will have lots of great arts related activities to participate in and most importantly see the wonderful world of Wayne Thiebaud inspired sweet treats that we created for our art fundraiser!  Every student, including half-day kindergarten, that was here in December and January will have their artwork framed and hung for all to enjoy.  If you wish to purchase your students framed artwork that night, it’s your lucky day!  Any proceeds from the fundraiser will help our art department bloom and grow.  Thank you for supporting the arts!!!  More detailed information on Paechjar and the attached email.

Digital Den Open House: March 7, 3pm-5pm. If you're coming to browse at the Scholastic Book Fair, stop in the computer lab, now named the Digital Den, to see and explore if you'd like, some of our newest robotics devices. If your child has come home talking about using ozobots or spheros, and you don't know what they are, this is a great opportunity to see them. I hope you stop by!

Iditarod

This week our class has been reading stories, practicing comprehension skills, writing, researching, and learning about the Iditarod.  The Iditarod is a dog sled race that takes place every March in Alaska. It is sometimes called the "Last Great Race." Although the race is over 1150 miles long, the race is officially 1,049 miles, since Alaska is the 49th state in the USA . The Iditarod trail goes from Anchorage to Nome.  Each student selected a musher and a team of dogs in which they will track throughout the Iditarod.  This week the students did research and wrote a biography on their musher.   The official Iditarod starts in Anchorage, Alaska on the first Saturday of March each year. The 2017 race gets underway at 10 a.m., on Saturday, March 4.  We will be tracking the mushers in school throughout the Iditarod and mapping their location.  If students would like to check where their musher is, you can go to the website http://iditarod.com or directly to the musher page http://iditarod.com/race/2017/mushers. The students are really excited and looking forward to following their mushers progress!!!
