Important Dates and a Peek at our Week!

 


Happy last Friday before Winter Break!

Next week is a B Week
Asynchronous (on your own) Specials: PE

Winter Break
There seems to be some confusion as to when Winter Break starts. We still have school on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Winter break is from Wednesday, December 23rd- Friday, January 1st. Our first day back is Monday, January 4th. 


***All afternoon groups will be cancelled next Tuesday, Dec. 22nd. 

Holidays Around the World
This year Mrs. Allen and I are working together to do Holidays Around the World. Mrs. Allen and I will each be teaching about two different holidays. This will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 22nd. Your child doesn't have to move to any other google meet, all the students will stay in their homeroom google meet. The teachers will be the ones switching. Here is the schedule of events:
8:50 - 9:15 Mrs. Peet: Hanukkah
9:20 - 9:45 Mrs. Allen: Diwali
9:45 - 10:00 Break
10:00 - 10:25 Mrs. Peet: Chinese New Year
10:30 - 10:55 Mrs. Allen: Ramadan

Seesaw
As we come up on winter break, please make sure all assignments in Seesaw are completed. Monday, the asynchronous day, is a great day to get caught up on all work!

Cognitive Abilities Test- CogATs
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) administration for second grade students, scheduled for February, 2021, will be postponed. This assessment will be rescheduled and administered in the fall when students are back in school in person. The results from the CogAT are used as one part of the gifted education identification process. If you have any questions, you may contact the Office of Assessment Services or the Office of Gifted Education.

Reading Groups
Just another reminder that it's extremely important for all students to attend reading groups in the afternoon. Each student has a specific day/time that they are required to attend. Please reach out if you are unsure of your child's reading group schedule.

Interims
Wednesday, Dec. 16th, interims will be emailed through ParentVue. Please make sure you read these to see how your child is doing in school so far for Q2!

Cogat Testing

Pinebrook Holiday Shop Goes Virtual!  

Our annual Holiday Shop is a fun tradition for Pumas interested in buying small gifts for themselves and their family. In the past, the pop-up store was available for students to browse during school hours. This year, our shop has moved online! Your student can visit the website to make their selections, and the items will be delivered directly to Pinebrook! Pickup times will be announced later in the month, and items will still include gift wrap for Pumas wanting to surprise friends and family with their presents! The store is open now until December 9th, with delivery dates announced soon.

Thanksgiving Break
There will be no school from Wednesday, November 25th through Friday, November 27th for Thanksgiving Break! See you all Monday morning, November 30th!

Native American Project
Project is due Tuesday, November 24th! 

We finished learning about the Powhatan, Pueblo, and Lakota tribes. Hopefully your child has picked the tribe they want to focus on for their project and has gotten started. There are 2 parts! Please read more about the project in the blue link below!

Native American Project
Will be assigned in Seesaw On Friday, Nov. 13th. Will be DUE on Tuesday, Nov. 24th.
We will be learning about the Powhatan, Pueblo, and Lakota tribes in class. Students will be asked to choose one of those tribes to complete the Seesaw activity. We will discuss this more with students next week in class.

New Grading Policy in Seesaw
This quarter students will have the opportunity to receive a 4 on most Seesaw assignments. The level 4 questions are to promote higher level thinking and need to be completed independently! This will give them a change to earn an "Exceeds" on their report card in that area.

Reading Groups
